Ted Cruz has had a pretty unsustainable year so far. Texan lawmakers began supporting Donald Trump's election lie in 2021.
The senator's home state is currently facing an unprecedented winter storm. A number of people have died and millions have no power. Still, Cruz flew to Cancun last night in the midst of the crisis.
Cruz's demeanor was so egregious, in fact, that Fox's Jesse Watters lit up on him during an episode of The Five. Watters told the audience, "I mean, this is kind of day one stuff if you're a politician. If your state has a weather disaster, don't go on a tropical vacation."

Another conservative expert, Meghan McCain, also had harsh words for Cruz. The View co-host commented, "I'm sure there will be a lot of media waiting and asking questions, but literally fleeing your home state while people freeze to death to go to Cancun is very Marie Antoinette. One of the worst looks that I could come up with at a time when there were many bad political optics. "
That's not to say Cruz didn't have his defenders. Sean Hannity joined Cruz's pathetic attempt to hold his daughter responsible for the trip. He said to his radio audience: “Incidentally, Ted Cruz only accompanied his daughter on a trip to Cancun as a father. You can be a father and a senator at the same time, and he'll turn around and head straight back to Texas. My goodness. "
