The director of the National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, went on CNN Friday morning to attack the administration of former President Donald Trump. The lack of openness and facts in the past year "probably" led to the loss of lives in the middle of COVID-19.
He also tore open the "divide" and politicization of wearing masks to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Fauci attacks Trump administration
"(W) what we had, John – there is no secret – we had a lot of division, facts that were very, very clear and questioned," Fauci told CNN host Jon Berman. “People didn't trust what the health officials were saying. There was great division. Masking became a political issue. "
"So what the president said let's reset this from the start. Let's all get on the same page and trust each other. Let the science speak," he added. "The president has the analogy of war Yeah, I mean, if you look at the numbers, over 400,000 people are dead. That's pretty much like World War 2. I mean, that's why we really need to restore confidence and restore a unified approach. "

"Has the lack of openness, the lack of facts in some cases cost lives in the last year?" Berman asked, clearly hoping Fauci would attack Trump. Sure enough, he took the bait hook, line, and sinker.
"You know, it was very likely," replied Fauci. "You know, I don't want this to be a Soundbite, John, but I think if you just look at this you can see this when you start going down ways that are not based on any science at all – and we can have been there before. "
"I don't want to reheat it again," he continued. “That's not helpful at all. And especially when you are almost in crisis with the number of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths we have, talking about things that don't make sense medically or scientifically, it clearly doesn't help. ”
