Senate Democrats say the $ 600 billion COVID stimulus offer from 10 Republican Senators is not worth a waste of time.
Washington Post's Jeff Stein tweeted:
Only a few hours have passed, but so far the consensus among Democrats I spoke to today is that the GOP offer is not worth maintaining or delaying Biden's plan
– Jeff Stein (@JStein_WaPo) January 31, 2021
The Republican proposal is less than a third the size of the Biden proposal. It's not a serious offer. Republicans offer pennies when the nation needs dollars. The Republican proposal provides no funding for state and local governments, no increase in the minimum wage, cuts in unemployment benefits, and economic reviews.
The Biden government said they will take a look at the proposal, but the Senate majority leader Schumer stands ready to push the Biden proposal forward Tuesday. So if the Senate Democrats are not interested in the proposal, it will die quickly.
The Democrats no longer have to play these games. The White House can speak to these Senate Republicans if they so choose, but the power rests with Chuck Schumer and the Senate Democrats, and they seem to have decided they're ready to move forward without Republican votes.
