The Atlanta Press Club, which holds the first debate that Perdue emerged from – or the first runoff debate that it emerged from because it also canceled the last debate on the general election – admitted a statement Perdue's decision from:
The Atlanta Press Club's Loudermilk-Young Debate Series is disappointed that Senator David Perdue decided not to participate in his debate. Jon Ossoff has confirmed his attendance so we will continue the debate according to our rules and Senator Perdue will be represented by an empty podium.
"That is not our preference. The Atlanta Press Club works hard to provide a platform for all candidates running for public office. We believe that having the opportunity is an essential part of the democratic process for voters to Hear an exchange of views from the candidate so they can be better informed when they cast their ballots.
“With that in mind, we hope Sen. Perdue will change his mind. We will leave the door open so that he can take part in our debate on December 6th. "
